Jason F. Ruwet, Esq. is a Director and Shareholder in Kolvoord, Overton & Wilson, P.C.. He is currently licensed to practice law in the State of Vermont, Washington, D.C., and U.S. District Court, District of Vermont. He focuses his practice on corporate and general business law; commercial financing; commercial and residential real estate law; estate planning; and probate law.
Jason grew up on the coast of Maine outside of Portland. He lived there until enrolling at Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York where he majored in political science and minored in journalism. In the summer of 1994, Jason served as a Research Associate for the Council on Hemispheric Affairs in Washington, D.C. While there, Jason focused his research on U.S. and Canadian trade relations as well as hemispheric free trade agreements. Jason also authored several articles for that organization’s biweekly publication, The Washington Report on the Hemisphere as well as a published op-ed concerning the impact Quebec’s secession would have on U.S. Canadian trade relations. Following college and his experiences in Washington, D.C., Jason returned to the Portland, Maine area to earn his Juris Doctor at the University of Maine School of Law. During law school, Jason interned for the Maine International Trade Center (MITC) in Portland, Maine. At MITC, Jason primarily provided technical assistance to individuals and companies interested in expanding their business interests overseas. Between 1995 and 2000, Jason also volunteered his time at the Maine Volunteer Lawyer’s Project, an organization committed to providing and referring pro bono legal services to individuals who could not afford legal assistance. Jason’s volunteer work was recognized when he was awarded the “1999 Pro Bono Student Award” by the Maine State Bar Association. Jason moved to Vermont in 2000 and began working with a mid-sized law firm in South Burlington, Vermont. He worked with that office for almost two and a half years prior to accepting a position as an associate attorney with Kolvoord, Overton & Wilson in 2003. Jason became a director and shareholder in Kolvoord, Overton & Wilson, P.C. in 2007.
Jason currently resides in Williston, Vermont with his wife, Kate and their three children, Alex, Jack and Abby. Jason volunteered as a youth t-ball and soccer coach in the Town of Williston for a number of years and has been a member of the Rotary Club of Essex, Vermont since 2003. He served as the Club President for the 2007-2008 year and previously served as Club Secretary, Vice-President and as the chair of the Rotary All-Star Hockey Classic. In his free time, Jason enjoys reading, traveling, hiking, skiing and spending time outdoors with his family.
